Myofascial release massage facilitates the release of the connective tissues, allowing free movement around the ears, joints, tendons and muscles where the sensory nerve endings are that communicate to the brain how that area of the body is feeling and moving.  These nerves are called prioreceptors and they help us connect our tissues with how we feel about something - the reason why we get a stiff neck when we are stressed for example.

Swedish massage techniques stimulate blood and blood flow and the lymphatic system.
